The beginnings
In this post, I provide a short version of Project I Love Your More Than. Overtime I will share a more elaborate version.
Before this project there was love
“I love you more than …” is a project that I serendipitously stumbled upon around 2016 during a series of trips between the United States and France. During this time, with encouragement from a special person, I decided to engage in a genuine relationship with love as it represented itself in my interaction with the world around me.
Engaging with love led to several behavior changes. For example, I began to practice saying, “I love you.” It seems like a fairly simple phrase, but it was a phrase that I spent most of my youth distancing myself from. So I needed practice. I practiced alone at first. I graduated to whispering it at the end of phone calls, after the person on the other end hung up. Soon I discovered my voice and found myself reaching out to people I have known for as long as 25 years to proclaim my love for them.
Within a few months the phrase was losing its flare and I began searching for other creative ways to say “I love you.” I was looking for ways that were flexible, memorable, and would not become stale easily. I eventually arrived at a sentence construct that began with, “I love your more than…” The sentence starter provided structure and flexibility. I discovered that there are nearly an infinite number of iterations that could be created with the sentence starter.
I have developed several dozen phrases using the sentence starter to capture ways people can let others know how much they love them. I plan to reproduce the ones I have created on this website.
There are so many other ways to that humans express love. Some are explicit. Take for example uttering the words or writing a letter. Other ways are implicit, for example a facial expression, which may go unnoticed.
But humans are not the only ones that love or express love. All of creation loves. We just have to open our eyes, hearts and minds to begin to see their love in action. I have committed to doing this. It will, God willing, help me gain a greater appreciation for the things that exist between the heavens and earth.
The Journey Continues
Now that I have commensed my journey to build a richer understanding about love, there is no turning back. I will use this blog to document my journey. I pray the Almighty God might support me so that this journey will benefit me in this world and in the hereafter.
